I started to get a patch of dry skin on the shin of my leg, over 2 – 2 1/2 months ago. It itched a bit when it first came up, and is circular in shape. It was probably about the size of a quarter, darker around the outside, but never seemed raised, and alittle lighter in the center. After about id say a week or 2, the itching went away, but the spot is still there. Psoriasis runs in my family some kinda bad, so at first i thought that was what it was. I then noticed about 4 days the spot seemed larger, about the size of a half dollar. and quite a bit redder on the outside, and a slight sign of a smaller ring inside the larger one. Though the edges dont seem to be raised. There is very little itching anymore, and i have not noticed any more spots appearing. My husband has even deliberatly touched this spot (whilst showing him, amongst me racking my brain as to what it could possibly be) and he has yet to show any signs of it. During this whole time, i had taken no precautions, to treat or cover it, or treat the home any differently than my normal routine, of cleaning, and laundry. I washed the sheets weekly as i normally would, used a clean bath towel after every shower (all the norm for me) , and even shaved over this area several times, with the same razor, might i add. with no spreading!!

It was just these past few days that i started to treat it with micanazole nitrate 2%, twice to three times daily. After seeing similar photos online, and a few ppl whom i ask said it looked like resembles ringworm. However, if its showing any signs of improvement, its very little. So, i guess what my question is, Is this even ringworm that im trying to treat, or something else? I mean from everything that i have researched on the net, it all tells about how highly contagious it is, and how cautious you must be to keep from spreading not only on your own body, but to others. And after 2 months with it, untreated, mind you, i have not gotten it anywhere else, nor have i spread it to anyone else. Im beginning to wonder if this even is ringworm! Opnions?

I have psoriasis on my knee and I tried using vaseline it only kept it from drying too fast but never relieved the itch which causes it to spread if you scratch it so I was just wondering if anyone know f anything I can use to help get rid of this thank you.

The appearance of a pale nail will vary depending on the cause and severity of the problem. Nail paleness can be triggered by trauma to the nail or it may be caused by a disease. The scientific name for pale nail is leuconychia.

A pale nail is sometimes an indicator of a general health problem. For instance, people with chronic liver disease often show signs of pale nail. In the case of liver problems the total nail will be pale except for the top portion, which will retain its original pink color. The nails on the thumb and the index fingers are the most likely to be pale when there is liver disease present.

People with lymphoma, renal disease and fungal disease are also prone to pale nail. Diseases that reduce the quality of oxygen in the blood will often cause the nails to turn from pink to white. Sometimes pail nail is the sign of poor nutrition. It is extremely important to eat a nutritious diet every day to help boost the immune system. Most physicians and holistic practitioners recommend reducing carbohydrate intake and increasing the amount of protein in the diet. It is important to eat a diet that contains several servings a day of fresh fruits and vegetables as well as whole grains. Sugar intake should be minimized as much as possible because sugar aggravates nail infections.

Some people find that their pale nail symptoms improve when they eat yogurt daily or take acidophilus capsules. Food supplements containing Vitamins B,C,D and E are also recommended as well as zinc.

Certain types of fungal infections can cause changes in the texture, color and shape of the nail. Certain types of bacteria can bring about changes in the color of the nail and cause painful areas under the nail. Psoriasis may cause splitting and paleness of the nail plate.

There is no treatment currently available to treat pale nail, but some people choose to wear polish in a darker color to hide the paleness. Since pale nail is often the cause of a more serious underlying medical condition it is important to consult your physician if you see dramatic changes in the color of your nails.

On Tuesday, May 4, 2010, Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz spoke on the floor of the House of Representatives to recognize the incredible service and spirit of Lauren Henschel and Taylor Davis. Madame Speaker, I rise to honor two extraordinary young women who are here with us today, Lauren Henschel and Taylor Davis, for receiving the Prudential Spirit of Community Award. At age 12, Taylor found out that due to budget constraints, her school was considering canceling art education. So she sent handwritten letters to 45 art supply CEOs in the US and Europe, securing $30000 worth of donated art supplies. Now 13, Taylor has started a non-profit called The Traveling Canvas to provide arts education to students around the world. At age 14, when Lauren saw her father struggling with psoriasis, she took action, spearheading the countrys first Psoriasis fundraising walk. In the last four years Laurens vision has spread nationally, raising more than $750000 for the National Psoriasis Foundation. When Lauren herself was diagnosed with psoriasis she said the following: I now understand that if anyone on earth should have been diagnosed, it was me, so that I could use all of my abilities to make a difference for the millions of sufferers around the world.
